Wow, your aunt is a fount of wisdom. Thanks for spreading the misinformation.

My Pakistani friend (who did accept both of her DCs' heads shaved) told me the same thing - their belief was that it fabricated the hair grow in thicker and stronger, non a religious affair.

Hope your pp postal service allows you to cheque off "be a jerk at least once today" from your to practise listing.

I am Indian and while both my sis and I had our heads shaved, we aren't doing it to our DD. At temples in India, yous lookout man the priests practice information technology and it looks horrible (kids screaming, priests being besides rough). And while I do think perhaps pilus grows in evenly, there is well-nigh no do good to your hair afterward a couple of years. My parents hate that we didn't practice it, but we gave some of the hair from her first haircut to the temple, and I retrieve that's all we are willing to do!

Cutting pilus doesn't make it grow whatsoever differently. Though I don't have a problem with the custom.

Sorry to hijack but why Indian women brush their pilus tight and and then secure it with a scrunchy on the dorsum of the neck? The bottom part looks like a witch's broom!

They have such beautiful thick shinny hair! Why not style it another style?

Also why coconut oil on it? Even for kids...

Having hair pulled dorsum is considered modest - either in a braid or a simple depression pony tail. Coconut oil is an crawly natural conditioner.

Our beyond-the-street neighbors did it with their two little girls. But I think their hair was just genetically thick b/c both the parents have thick hair also. I exercise non remember the cutting/shaving had much to practise with information technology!

Is information technology not besides washed to little boys too? I'm married to an Indian (I'g from the Eye East) and I believe I have seen it done to boys also.

Married into an Indian family and hither are the multifariousness of explanations I've gotten on the shaved baby head matter: (1) MIL and aunties over 50 with Hindu backgrounds take told me that shaving the child's head at age 1 is a mode to limited appreciation to the gods that your child survived the outset twelvemonth, which is the riskiest (two) more secular agnostics cousins/friends have told me they wanted their kid to have fifty-fifty pilus growth and thicker, fuller pilus and so finally (three) Muslim Indian friends said they believed the hair that grew in utero is "dingy" and needs to exist cleansed/removed, just I get the sense that'southward more cultural than religious.

Having hair pulled back is considered modest - either in a braid or a unproblematic low pony tail. Kokosnoot oil is an awesome natural conditioner.

Crawly. Thanks.

But don't y'all wash the oil subsequently? One girl in DDs grade goes to school with the hair dripping oil.

Simply don't you launder the oil later on? 1 girl in DDs class goes to schoolhouse with the hair dripping oil.

cultural difference. my Indian DH considers oiled upwards pilus gorgeous. (I don't oil my hair; information technology's greasy enough as it is)
