How to Crochet a Bow Tie for Baby
The Crocodile Stitch, aka the Scale Sew, is the nearly requested video tutorial on the Moogly Facebook page – and you all know how I dearest to take requests! But I decided to take it 1 pace further, and include not but a video and written instructions, but a photo tutorial likewise!
At that place are a variety of ways to make the Crocodile Stitch, and I've attempted several of them myself. What I show here is the method that I believe is easiest. Even so, this is definitely an avant-garde stitch. You lot should exist comfortable with both double crochet and post stitches before you start with the Crocodile Stitch. You might also want to grab a drinking glass of wine! But be patient, go through the video a couple times, pausing as necessary, and give information technology a try – it but might be easier than y'all recall!

Written Instructions and Photo Tutorial for the Crocodile Sew
UPDATE 12/fourteen/15: In the video and in the photo tutorial below I chained 21. Still, I've been playing with this stitch a bit more than, and I would recommend starting with a chain that is a multiple of 6 plus 1, and then 3 more if y'all want to use that for the starting time dc.
Row 1: Ch to desired length (see annotation above). Work 2 dc in the 6th ch from the hook. *Ch ane, skip 2 chains, and dc in the next st. Ch 1, skip two chains, and piece of work 2 dc in the next st. Repeat from * to stop, ending with either 2 dc or 1 dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, and beginning working into the first pair of dc sts, skipping the unmarried dc if that was the last st of the previous row. Going around the post of the first dc of the pair as if to piece of work a back post sew together, make 5 dc sts around the mail of the st, working down the length of the post towards the foundation concatenation.
And then make five dc around the post of the side by side dc st, working from the foundation concatenation terminate towards the peak. (Kickoff scale made.)
*Sl st in the next single dc. Brand the adjacent scale in the adjacent pair of dc sts. Echo from * to stop, working a sl st in the tiptop of every single dc and a scale in each pair of dc sts. Plough. NOTE: If you ended this row with a sl st in the peak of a single dc st, then continue with Row three instructions. If you ended with a scale, become to the Row v instructions.
Row 3: Ch 3, dc in the same st. *Ch 1, dc in the middle of the side by side scale. Ch 1, work ii dc in the pinnacle of the next sl st. Echo from * to terminate, working 2 dc sts in the top of each sl st, and 1 dc in the meridian of each scale. If the previous row ended with a calibration, piece of work ane dc in the left corner of the last calibration, as shown. Turn.
Row four: Echo Row ii, working scales in the dc pairs and sl sts in the unmarried dc sts. NOTE: If you ended this row with a sl st in the peak of the dc st, then repeat the Row three instructions for the side by side row. If yous ended with a calibration, go along to Row 5.
Row five: Ch 1 and sl st in the center of the last calibration made. Ch four (counts equally first dc and ch1), and then work 2 dc in the next sl st. *Ch 1, dc in the center of the adjacent scale. Ch ane, work two dc in the next sl st. Echo from * to end, working sts as appropriate. If the previous row ended with a scale, work ane dc in the left corner of the last scale, as shown. Turn.
From here you should exist able to run across the pattern. Piece of work the scaffolding and then work the scales in the dc pairs. Continue every bit long equally desired!
Did you lot give information technology a try? If this method simply isn't working for you, I recommend trying some other videos on youtube. At that place are several different means to make Crocodile Stitches, and anybody has the method they prefer – and that's okay! At that place's rarely a right or incorrect in crochet – just any works for the project you're working on. Good luck and let me know if this method worked for you!
